“Hell of a party,” Jackie observed, leaning against the railing next to Ray. Ray glanced at her then back at the dozen women in the pool.

“Yep; I never knew moving could go so quickly.”

Jackie laughed. “Beer, barbeque and swimming? I’m surprised you only found fifteen women to help.” She paused. “Speaking of women; where’s Lee?”

“She’s in the house.” Ray gestured over her shoulder. “I think she’s comparing wines with Linda.”

“She looks pretty hot in that bathing suit, doesn’t she?”

Ray looked at her. “Yes, she does.” And for the moment, she’s all mine. Ray felt only slightly bad for being so possessive of Lee. It was more than possessiveness; it was protectiveness. Ray didn’t want anything bad to happen to Lee and she felt that their involvement was a good way to keep her safe from the local women who might not be so understanding of her position as just coming out.

“A couple of other women have noticed, Janet especially.” Jackie studied her. “So fess up; is she available or isn’t she? You two have been spending enough time together to make me wonder.”

“You’d have to ask her,” Ray growled. “But even if she is, Janet is definitely not the right woman for her.”

Jackie laughed. “God, you’re easy to read sometimes. If the two of you aren’t sleeping together, you might as well be.”

Ray pushed off from the railing. “I need another beer.” She left Jackie smirking on the deck and went inside to the kitchen. As she suspected, Lee and Linda were comparing notes on two different bottles of wine. They had obviously been sampling each. Lee was leaning her back against the counter, her sarong slipping just a bit off her waist and showing the peak of her hip.

“Ray!” Lee grinned when she saw her. “Come here and taste these and tell me which one is fruitier.”

“It’s this one.” Linda pushed a bottle forward.

“I don’t know from wine,” Ray responded with a laugh, trying unsuccessfully to take her eyes off Lee’s body. “All I know is I need a cold beer.”

Lee pouted. “You can be so blue collar.” Then she grinned and poked at Ray’s side. “It’s one of the things I love about you.”

Startled, Ray stared at her. She realized that Lee was a little tipsy and hoped she was in control enough not to say or do anything she’d regret later.

Linda rolled her eyes. “Oh God ... save me. Even the straight girls love you, Ray. You should bottle that magnetism. You’d make a fortune off the butches world-wide.”

“Shove it,” Ray returned sharply, then forced her voice to be light. “I’m keeping it all for myself. I don’t want competition.”

Linda laughed and turned to Lee. “I still think this one is fruitier. We’ll try another glass in a little while. I’d better go see what Frankie is up to before she starts hitting on someone.”

After Linda had left the kitchen, Ray turned to Lee, who was studying her intently. “Are you ok?”

“I’m fine,” Lee replied, reaching over to pour another glass of wine for herself.
